One excellent way that we receive truth is through the preaching of the Word of God.  It occurred to me in devotions one morning — for no particular reason — that I should post some messages I’ve learned from and been inspired by.  I trust these will be of benefit to you as you grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (II Peter 3:18)!

Does the Doctrine of Divine Decrees Eliminate Human Will? – Dr. John MacArthur

Dr. John MacArthur spoke at the 2010 Ligonier National Conference and brought an extraordinary message that, through Scripture, richly displayed the compatability (or concurrance) of  God’s sovereignty and human will.  In addition he made clear that Christians must embrace evangelical duty: our responsibility to present Christ to everyone. (Note: The above link will take you to a video on the Ligonier Web site.  I have not found this message available anywhere else, but it is a stunning message that really demands an audience!  Also, please note that to date I have only been able to access it through Internet Explorer.  Mozilla Firefox doesn’t work for some reason.)

God Rules! – Pastor Craig Muri

You can look at anything that happens in the world and in your own life, personally, from two perspectives:  Historically (it happened: it’s a fact); and “theologically” (How God sees it and why He has either allowed it or actually orchestrated it).  Obviously the latter is extremely important!  This is a message for the hour preached by Heidi’s own pastor.

Life Marked by Resurrection – Pastor Craig Muri

Heaven — now and forever!  Because our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has risen from the dead we are now citizens of a heavenly kingdom and will one day receive glorified bodies like His!  What does this mean for us while suffering from arthritis, battling cancer, and watching age steal away our vitality and mobility?  What does it mean for us as participants in a changing democracy, in a sensual world and in a post-Christian culture?  Does your belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ transform the way you are living each day?  Pastor Muri  — Heidi’s pastor — explores these ideas from Philippians 3:20, 21.

Get Ready! - Steve Lawson

Do you live every day in light of the fact that Jesus Christ could come to get his church ON THAT VERY DAY?  Are you ready to stand before him on a moment-by-moment basis?  This truth should affect how we live!  This message will challenge you to consider His soon return in this way.

The Invisible War – Steve Lawson at the 2010 Shepherd’s Conference

What goes on behind the scenes when trials come into our lives?  What is our appropriate response to those trials?  This is a phenomenal message.  I’ve never heard Job preached in quite this way.  I hope you have time to listen to it!

Is the Doom of the World Near? – John MacArthurJohn-MacArthur

You’d think this message was preached last week!  Although it was presented a while back, your mind will fill in the blanks that Pastor MacArthur fails to mention.  If he thinks “the end” was close when he originally preached it, what does that say about how close we must be TODAY?

Pastor MacArthur says, “Tonight I want you to see some of the signs in the Word of God that tell us that the age of man is ending . . . a man who can’t see the impending doom isn’t really looking, because it’s there!”

Get ready to get excited!  Jesus is coming sooooooon!!

Are You a True Disciple? - Paul Washer

If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?  I know that’s a cliche question, but in the day we’re living in I see so many who call themselves by the name of Jesus Christ, but they don’t show evidence of a transformed life; they don’t show a hunger for the Word of God; they don’t manifest the fruit of the Spirit.  Has God, by His Holy Spirit, changed you on a daily basis to make you more conformed to the image of His Son?  This message is absolutely vital for the day in which we live.  God bless the preaching of His Word to your heart as you listen:

What to Look For in a Pastor – Pastor John MacArthurJohn MacArthur

I received a copy of this sermon (the title is hot-linked) in DVD form in the mail from Grace to You.  It sat there for weeks because — thank GOD! — I HAVE a wonderful pastor so I figured it wasn’t that important.  But my, my!  It’s VITAL for so, so many Christians who need wisdom and guidance in these days we’re living in where discernment is sorely needed.  It may take a while to FIND a good pastor, but if you listen to this message, once you find him, you’ll know it!

Hope That Transforms – Pastor Craig Muricountrychurch

A message from Heidi’s pastor (the title is hot-linked): Our hope defines who we are and how we live right now.  We need to be living — right now — as citizens of a new world of complete and unending righteousness.  We need to have a commitment to righteousness now.  We must consider our present set of values in light of this coming new world.  This will transform our lives!

Abandoned by God (Part 1) – Pastor John MacArthur

Abandoned by God (Part 2) – Pastor John MacArthurJohn-MacArthur

This message (the titles are hot-linked), taken from Romans 1, is the most insightful I’ve ever heard on how God “gives men up” to their sin.  God is a very patient, loving God, but even He has His limits and when men blatantly reject the wooing of His Holy Spirit, they are treading eternally dangerous ground.
